PASEOS

San Diego

Public/Civic

2024

Based off of community input, this mural celebrates the close-knit neighborhoods of Rolando/College Area while bringing attention to local nature and wildlife.

Drawing from the rich history of Rolando, the design integrates the iconic pathways, known as paseos, which intersect and unite the neighborhood. Each of the eight paseos embodies the essence of the community and are named after local elements including: Agaves, Colibrì, Papagayos, Coyotes, Naranjas, Halcón, Palmas, and Pinos. These paths serve as both physical walkways and reflections of the beauty nestled throughout Rolando allowing one to trace the entire design and encounter every natural element along the way.
San Diego State University is also featured with a depiction of the iconic open-face bell tower of Hepner Hall, marking the importance of this educational and cultural institution to our city. The mural stands as a visual celebration of community, nature, and the unique charm of the Rolando/ College neighborhoods, inviting all who encounter it to feel the warmth and interconnected spirit that defines this San Diego enclave.
